Weirld Cup
Well, the long wait of the German public (and most of the world, excepting America) is finally over--the opening game of the FIFA World Soccer Championships starts tonight in Munich. And, as a displaced American who has only once sat through a complete match, I say, who cares?!
Perhaps my disinterest can be attributed to my general lack of interest in sports in general. I always thought sports to be less interesting than war, for example, where the fates of nations hang in the balance. Perverse? Yes, but little will be said about this World Cup in 500 years, World War II, however, will be remembered. Even the latest escapades in Iraq may get a footnote.
