Get out and look at the comet!
With the waning moon and darker skies, there is really no excuse for you not to get off your trans-fatty, TV-addicted asses and LOOK at this comet. It only takes a few moments to see something you will remember for years to come. I observed the comet for the first time in about a week, and wow, it has increased quite a bit in apparent size. Sky and Telescope reports that it's apparent diameter is about 1/2 that of a full moon, which is pretty darn large. In my small, 70mm telescope it appears to have doubled in size since the beginning of last week, when I first saw it. The links in my previous post still give you up-to-date info on finding Comet Holmes in the sky.
So don't delay! The new moon means dark skies, and if you are fortunate enough to have some clear ones, as we just did today after 5 or 6 days of fog, then GET OUT THERE! Wear something warm, grab a pair of binoculars and a friend. They will thank you for the view.
