I'm Beginning To See The Light
Thanks to Brigid the days are finally getting longer! I don't know about you, but I go into a dark, brooding, depressive mood due to the lack of sunlight here in the North from Halloween to Candlemas, or Samhain to Imbolc, if you're a Celt or a Wiccan. If you are a typical, modern rationalist, however, you'd probably prescribe some Prozac and write it off as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). But I find if you are truly in tune with the annual cycle of the sun, it seems perfectly natural to be a bit of a hibernating curmudgeon from November to February.
This weekend is a festival of light, appropriately called Lichtmess in German, and celebrated in a various fashions, including grabbing your favorite rodent and seeing if it sees its shadow. Such Schattenspiele are a nice way of enjoying the increasing daylight, which at this latitude is lengthening a few minutes each day.
