Thought for the Week

Wow, this news from Amerika hit me rather hard. It seems as though today, August 27, 2007, will go down as a sad day in the history of journalism, as that fine newspaper, the Weekly World News, releases its last issue. For all those who have enjoyed the antics of Bat Boy, Elvis sightings, alien abductions and the rantings of Ed Anger (who unfortunately lost his edge, so I hear), this institution will continue as an internet entity, but it just won't be the same. You won't be able to peruse it during a long wait in line at the grocery store anymore, which is quite unfortunate. The Weekly World News made the wait bearable, always eliciting a smile; now checkout lines across the country will be much bleaker places.

In tribute, check out this interesting tribute on Salon, written by none other than a former writer for the Weekly World News. That ranks right up there on the top ten list of cool jobs.
