Mythological Names

Aren't these girls cute? They are the offspring of my second-cousin, Monica Petersen Monk. From left, they are Rio Idalynn, 5, Maya Reyn, 3, and Talula Ann, 2.

Instead of naming her kids after trendy soap opera stars or giving them all an identical first letter, as is sometimes the case, Monica decided to name them all in a mythological manner. They all have names relating to that basic element of the ancient world, and probably the most feminine of the elements: water. Rio, of course, means "river" in Spanish. Maya Reyn can be translated as "May rain", and Talula is a Choctaw word for "leaping water". Cool, huh? I think so.
