North Korea with the Bomb
Here at Festung Europa, we strive to keep you informed on the pertinent issues of the day. So once again, let's turn to our Iowa correspondent and Man about Town, Loren Christensen, to get his views concerning North Korea's testing of a nuclear bomb. Let's see if this connection to the Metroplex is working. Loren, are you there?

It's Chris at Festung Europa. Loren, we'd like to get your commentary on the situation in North Korea. So, Kim Jung Il has the bomb. What do you make of this development?
WELL, CHRIS, THIS IS A SITUATION THAT CANNOT BE OVERLOOKED. A VIOLATION OF THE NON-PROLIFERATION TREATY IS SOMETHING THAT THE WORLD MUST REACT DECISIVELY WITH OPTIONS ON THE TABLE.
And what would those options include?
THE FIRST OPTION WOULD BE CHINESE ECONOMIC INTERVENTION WHICH WOULD CUT THEIR POWER, RAIL, FUEL AND FOOD SUPPLIES AND WOULD LITERALLY STOP THEIR MOVEMENT AS A NATION AND POSSIBLE PLUNGE THEM INTO UTTER STARVATION FOLLOWED BY A SHORT CIVIL WAR WARRANTING FURTHUR CHINESE INTERVENTION UP TO AND INCLUDING A FULL SCALE INVASION LEADING TO THE "LEGAL" ANNEXATION OF THE NORTH KOREAN AREA. THIS WOULD IN ALL ACTUALITY STOP ANY HOPE FOR UNIFICATION AND COULD PSSIBLE LEAD TO A CHINESE PUSH TO UNITE THE PENNINSULA UNDER ONE GOVERNMENT, THAT IS ONE GOVERNMENT THAT IS A CHINESE PATSY AND YET ANOTHER WAY TO CRIPPLE FORMOSA/TAIWAN INTO A SUBMISSIVE STANCE DUE TO AN INABILITY TO TRADE.
And the second option?
OF COURSE, THE CHINESE COULD DO NOTHING.
And if China decides to follow that course?
IF TWO OCCURS, IT FOLLOWS THAT JAPAN MUST TAKE DRAMATIC STEPS TO PUT A STOP TO ANY FURTHUR AGGRESSION WHICH COULD POSSIBLY LEAD TO:
A. A U.S. BUILDUP TO PROVOKE A FIGHT AND TOPPLE THE REGIME.
B. A REARMAMENT OF THE JAPANESE EMPIRE FOR THEIR OWN DEFENSE AND FOR REGIONAL BALANCE.
C. A DIRECT ATTACK FROM THE SOUTH USING THE FULL MIGHT OF SOUTH KOREA, THE U.S. AND JAPANESE ECONOMIC AID TO THE CAMPAIGN.
Well, those certainly seem appetizing options!
OF COURSE, THERE REMAINS ANOTHER OPTION: OUTRIGHT NUCLEAR CONFRONTATION FROM THE U.S. AND RUSSIA.
And that is even more tasty!
Of course, you could see some kind of meaningless economic sanctions passed by the UN, in reality doing nothing to stop North Korea from building more bombs and becoming a full-fledged member of what President Bush calls the "nu-cue-lar" club. If that happens, the mullahs in Iran will see that, in reality, building and testing the bomb is the only way to really get respect from the other members of the club. Nuclear proliferation among "rogue" nations! Welcome to the 21st century!
