RIP, Bobby Fischer
News coming over the wire from Reykjavik, Iceland reports on the death of chess great, Bobby Fischer, at the age of 64. While away from the chessboard he reminded us of that crazy uncle that lives in his mom's basement, on the chessboard he was perhaps the best there has ever been. It is fitting that he passed away in exile in Iceland, the land of his greatest victory over Boris Spassky in 1972.
While chatting with one of my acquaintances, the brainy yet busty Jocelyn Riehl of Corvalis, Oregon, she mentioned that she doesn't even really know how to play chess! Mein Gott! So if there are any others out there like Jocelyn, here is a classic book written by the Grandmaster himself with the beginning player in mind. What better legacy to offer to the late Grandmaster than to learn and/or brush up on the game?
