Flying Down To Rio

Before the Hindenburg, there was LZ 127, the Graf Zeppelin, an airship which really inaugurated transatlantic air travel. Indeed, this airship was the first dirigible to circumnavigate the globe in 1929, setting a new speed record for spanning the globe in just over 21 days.

Please enjoy this video clip showing this elegant airship on its first run down to South America in 1930. In a note to our Festung Europa Brazilian correspondent, Rafaela, I believe that some of this film covers your home state of Bahia; perhaps you recognize some of the topographical features?
