Full Moon Festival - Gonar's Drink of the Month!
Greetings, gentle drinkers;
First things first. I anticipate that many of you are awaiting word on the Defensemaster. Your wait is over. While the news is sad, even tragic, the anticipation and worry is past us now. His rancid and malodorous remains were discovered last week not far from Festung Europa, at a location which will remain undisclosed pending retaliatory action against the Xarlons. His death was the result of multiple and severe combat wounds of a wide-ranging variety, and it was clear that he was heavily outnumbered and brutally overwhelmed. As per the Defensemaster's wishes, Lefty Lucy and I recovered his skull which will be presented to Mystic Master and made into a memorial beer stein. The rest of his carcass was shot to the dark side of the moon and cremated with an Omega class nuclear warhead. While it is customary to ask that he may rest in peace, that was never really his thing. May he fight proudly on the Plains of Asgard.
Oh well. Anyhoo, the full moon has come again which means only one thing - Drink of the Month! As late October brings the cool northern breezes and the sailing season draws to a close, we may warm our lively bones with the official drink of this weekend's Wayzata Yacht Club Frostbite Cup, hot buttered rum! We are scheduled to race our Lasers on Sunday the 27th, with temperatures in the 40s. It will be cold and wet, but it will all be worth it for a mug of the buttery goodness!
Honestly, I have no idea who came up with this drink. It's butter, rum, and hot water. Who decided that was a good idea? I'll tell you, a visionary, that's who. Oh, dear God, I just took another sip...mmmm. Nothing like it on a chilly October evening such as this. Here's the recipe I use:
Put a teaspoon of brown sugar in a coffee mug, followed by a teaspoon of butter (that's one butter pat, you can pilfer them from most restaurants) and a healthy shot of rum, or maybe even two. Boil water in your teapot, and fill the mug to the top with the boiling water. Stir! Enjoy!
Until next month,
Gonar
