Interesting People on the Fringe: This Week - Miles Carter Kenyon!
This week's Interesting Person on the Fringe is brand-spankin' new. He is Miles Carter Kenyon, born on Halloween night at 21:30 to my niece, Heather Wise Kenyon and her husband, Scott, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Miles weighed in at seven pounds, nine ounces and was 20-1/2 inches long at birth.
I'm not sure as to the history behind the choice of his name, but Miles sure picked a powerful day to be born. It was on the ancient Celtic fest of Samhain, when the old Celtic year ends and the new begins, a time when the spirits of the ancestors come a calling and the gates between our world and the spirit world are open. And this cross-quarter day was also the 80th anniversary of the death of the world's most famous magician, Harry Houdini, who checked out of this world on Halloween, 1926. Miles' middle name also reminds me of another famous prestidigitator, Charles Joseph Carter, known as "Carter the Great".
Perhaps Miles is predestined to follow in the footsteps of these masters of illusion and legerdemain? Will he become a famous magician? Who knows? One thing is for sure, he is a child of the 21st century, and will likely see many changes in the world throughout this century, just as a child born in 1906 saw in the last one.
To Heather, Scott, Pat, Chuck and the rest of the family...Congratulations!
