Astro-Alert: The Leonids!
Tonight should be a good night for viewing the Leonids meteor shower, provided you have clear skies at your location, which unfortunately is not the case here. Since the moon is currently a quite thin, waning crescent, moonlight will not be a problem. Light pollution, unfortunately, is another issue.
The best time for viewing is around 3:00 a.m. local; the radiant, of course, is located in the constellation Leo, the Lion, marked by its reverse-question mark shape and the bright star, Regulus, the heart of the Lion. There could be around 2 meteors a minute if it turns out well.
Perhaps we'll get a break in the cloud cover...it is worth a look outside if I get up to take a leak in the middle of the night!
